Description & Geology

The Pedirka Basin and associated Eringa and Madigan troughs are Permian depocentre prospective for oil and gas.  It is overlain by Jurassic-Cretaceous sediments of the Eromanga Basin, and underlain by Cambrian sediments of the Warburton Basin.  No commercial hydrocarbon discoveries have been made in these basins to date, but oil was recovered on test from Jurassic reservoirs in Poolowanna 1, drilled by Western Mining Corporation in 1977.
